Description
Veterans Administration (VA) offers two broad categories of Pension benefit programs:
Veterans Pension: Tax-free monetary benefit payable to low-income wartime Veterans.
Survivors' Pension: Tax-free monetary benefit payable to a low-income, un-remarried surviving spouse and/or unmarried child(ren) of a deceased Veteran with wartime service.
Veterans and survivors who are eligible for pension benefits and are housebound or require the aid and attendance of another person may be eligible to receive additional monetary amounts.

A program administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that provides a special monthly allowance that is paid in addition to the regular veteran compensation/pension payment for wartime veterans, surviving spouses and parents of wartime veterans who are permanently housebound by reason of one or more disabilities. This requirement is met when the individual is confined to his or her dwelling and the immediate premises or, if in a hospital or assisted living facility, ward or clinical area, and it is anticipated that the disability or disabilities and current confinement will continue throughout the his or her lifetime.

NS-1800.9000-960Veteran Pension Program Definition
A program administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that provides regular monthly payments for unemployed veterans age 65 and older and for wartime veterans who have a limited income. Veterans are generally eligible for pension benefits if they were discharged from service under conditions other than dishonorable, served at least 90 days of active military service one day of which was during a wartime period, their countable family income is below allowable yearly limits set by law, and they are age 65 or older or have a permanent and total disability not directly connected to their active duty service. Veterans who entered active duty after September 7, 1980, generally must have served at least 24 months or the full period for which called or ordered to active duty. The Pension Program also provides monthly payments, as specified by law, to surviving spouses and dependent children of deceased wartime veterans with limited incomes.
